When I enter a behaviour consultation, I do not arrive with the intention of correcting a dog immediately. Instead, my approach begins with careful observation and active listening. I pay close attention to both the dog and its owner, aiming to understand the underlying reasons for the behaviour being displayed. This process allows me to gather valuable insights into the situation before taking any further steps.
My primary responsibility in these consultations is to provide support to both the dog and its owner. I make a conscious effort not to focus on finding faults or assigning blame. However, it is important to recognise that not all behaviours can or should be ignored. Some actions may be unsafe or unfair, either to the dog itself or to others. In such cases, appropriate correction is necessary. I believe that correction has a legitimate place in training, provided it is carried out thoughtfully.
Any correction administered must be calm, measured, and straightforward for the dog to comprehend. The aim is not to intimidate or confuse, but to provide clear guidance about what is expected. When correction is used alongside consistent training, clear structure, it creates an environment in which the dog can feel safe and secure,

Discover how to effectively manage and direct your dog's prey drive. Learn techniques to cultivate a calm, obedient companion that will follow your commands, even when their instincts kick in. Throughout this two-day course, you will develop your skill in handling your dog's behaviour and nurture them to become more attentive and responsive in any situation.
